    Hello,

I have seen this issue brought up numerous times on Google searches but I haven’t found a solution yet for Ubuntu 15.10 Desktop. I downloaded and installed NoMachine 5.1.9_6 DEB package and installed it on both the client and server, both of which are Ubuntu 15.10 Desktop.  After I did the very first install on the server and configured it so that permission was not required to remote in, I was able to logout from Unity but leave the machine running and then was able to connect and see the login screen from my Ubuntu 15.10 Desktop client. Everything worked smoothly from then on and I was able to administer the server as I expected.

I did an update on the server machine and rebooted, and since then all I get when I attempt to remote into the server from the desktop is a black screen that is blank (though I can see my mouse pointer move around on the black screen). I physically logged into the server and I noticed the NX notification icon in the menu bar in the upper right was missing. I have messed around with a few things to try and get the notification icon to come back with varying success. On my client machine, I am able to reboot and see the NX notification icon in the menu bar no problem. Not sure what is different between the two machines since they are both running Ubuntu 15.10 Desktop.

Let me know if there is anything I can get to help diagnose what is going on with my NX server.  I did open port 4000/tcp and ports 4011:4999/udp on the server firewall as I saw somewhere these ports were necessary for client/server communication.

    Thanks,

    Eddie

We weren’t able to reproduce the problem. Tell me more about this update you did. Was it just: sudo apt-get update or have you installed something new on the machine, for example Wayland instead of Xorg?

Please enable debug, reproduce the problem and send logs from server and client side to forum[at]nomachine[dot]com or attach them here (size is restricted). Instructions about collecting logs you can find there: https://www.nomachine.com/DT04M00076

    • Yes I just did a sudo apt-get update/sudo apt-get upgrade/sudo apt-get dist-upgrade which simply updated the NX server with the latest Wily packages
    • I followed the instructions for generating and capturing the client and server logs which I have attached here for your reference
      • I did a reboot after I set up the debug logging on the server side. One thing I noticed is when I attempted to connect from client, the client waited maybe ten seconds and then disconnected on its own
      • I then logged into my user on the server and then locked the screen. I then reconnected from the client and got the black screen again

Thanks for taking a look at this, I appreciate it!

Thanks for logs, but we still couldn’t reproduce problem. Can you check netstat and ps commands?
    Just execute in terminal:

    /bin/netstat -ln –protocol=unix > netstat_output.txt
    /bin/ps awwxo uid,ppid,pid,sid,comm,args > ps_output.txt

Send that two files (netstat_output.txt, ps_output.txt) to forum[at]nomachine[dot]com or attach them here (size is restricted).

We still cannot locate the reason why you not able to connect to the session. Please try to add line: NXWmRunningTimeout 100000 on the end of server configuration file (/usr/NX/etc/server.cfg).Then restart nxserver (sudo /usr/NX/bin/nxserver –restart).
    Once again execute:
    /bin/netstat -ln –protocol=unix > netstat_output.txt
    /bin/ps awwxo uid,ppid,pid,sid,comm,args > ps_output.txt
After that collect logs from server side and sen them and netstat_output.txt, ps_output.txt to forum[at]nomachine[dot]com or attach them here.
