So, I haven’t used a remote access product since the 90s, but am looking for one now. NoMachine Enterprise might be right for me, but I have some questions. I’ll be using it to work on a machine at my house in the US from outside of the country. Both machines have Windows 7 Pro 64-bit.

    1. Can I set up the host software to start automatically without intervention so I can reboot the machine remotely and connect again?
    2. I might or might not have a static IP address on the host machine. If not, will that make the way I connect less secure?
    3. I’ll be connecting to a host laptop with a 15″ screen from a client with a 20″ monitor. Can I display more on the client display than what would be on the host’s display? (Or will it just be like a blown up version of the host screen?) Would I even be able to use a dual-display remotely with 2 screens?
    4. Is there anyway to turn off the host display while I’m working?
    5. Is it stable?

    Thanks!

    1. Can I set up the host software to start automatically without intervention so I can reboot the machine remotely and connect again?

NoMachine services will start up again by default at reboot of the remote host. If you don’t want to that to occur you can configure it in the Service Status section (!M icon in system tray -> Show the service status -> Shutdown the server -> Continue -> Do you want to automatically start the server at the next reboot?” -> Yes.

    2. I might or might not have a static IP address on the host machine. If not, will that make the way I connect less secure?

By default, NoMachine works out-of-the-box on your local network. To access over the Internet, you’ll need to forward ports on your router or use a VPN. If you don’t set a static IP you’ll have to change your port forwarding configuration every time when your IP changes. In the future, we’ll be adding a feature that will avoid having to do this. 3. I’ll be connecting to a host laptop with a 15″ screen from a client with a 20″ monitor. Can I display more on the client display than what would be on the host’s display? (Or will it just be like a blown up version of the host screen?)

Possible resolutions depend on the video capabilities of the remote computer, so you cannot display more on the client than what would be on the remote display.

Would I even be able to use a dual-display remotely with 2 screens?

Yes, more about multiple monitors you can find there: https://www.nomachine.com/switching-the-view-between-multi-monitors-during-a-remote-desktop-session

    4. Is there anyway to turn off the host display while I’m working?

    Yes, please refer to: https://www.nomachine.com/protecting-the-host-screen-during-a-remote-control-session

    5. Is it stable?

NoMachine goes through rigorous quality assurance processes. And I might add that we are the solution of choice in a high number of well-known organizations 😉 If you want more information about our customers and our QA, feel free to contact us via the website (Contact Us in the footer).
