Stop screen centering

Hi,

I’m using the Android NoMachine app from a moble (in portrait mode) to connect to my Linux desktop. I’m having an issue where if I zoom out, the desktop I am looking at is still centred on my mobile screen, and I am unable to three-finger scroll/move the screen upwards. This means that if I open my keyboard (which covers the bottom 1/3 ish of my mobile screen), it covers the bottom part of the desktop I am looking at. This is problematic when working with terminal windows etc, as it means I can’t see what I’m typing (since it’s covered by the keyboard). Is there a setting or a workaround for this?

Hi Tim. We’re aware of it and we’re working on guessing the area that needs to be visible to avoid to cover it with the keyboard. As workaround you could enable the keyboard floating mode, so you can move it to a more comfortable position.

Hi Tor, thanks for your reply. I’ll switch to a keyboard which can float and give it a go too, though I do like using the one I have! Instead of needed to guess, perhaps just a bit more flexibility on how far one can scroll the screen around would be nice!

Sure, scrolling will still be possible, the guessing is only needed for the initial position.

Just out of curiosity, what is the keyboard you’re using? I’d be happy to verify if it has a floating mode hidden somewhere! 🙂

Thanks, I subscribed. I’m using Swype at the moment (though I know it hasn’t had support for a while)!

Another thing that came to mind is the little grey bar affixed to the top of the keyboard, with additional buttons such as super and tab etc. – I’m not sure if it is just for me, but I find tapping the buttons quite unreliable for some reason. It often seems that it mistakes my taps as an attempt to swipe and drag along the row, which is quite a nuisance when trying to use tab completion! (A shoutout to the ConnectBot app, which I use to do the reverse tunnelling for NoMachine to access my firewalled computers – they implement the extra key bar very well!)

Do you’ve Swype version 1.8? In such a case, by tap&holding the “?123” key you should see a popup where you can select the floating mode. I agree about sticking with a keyboard if you’re comfortable with it, so I hope I won’t be the reason for you to stop using it! 😛

Ah! Thanks for the tip – I have v3.2.4, so it has the floating as you mentioned =)

I’m using a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge running Android 8.0.0.
