White screen on login screen

Apologies I somehow submitted the post before I finished it:

I am getting a white screen if I try to remote into a computer that is on the login screen. If I am already logged in, I can remote into the current session.

Server running Arch fully patched

Desktop: Gnome-shell 3.36

Display Manager: GDM 3.36

More information: downgrading gdm to 3.34 restores the ability to remote to a machine on the login screen.  This is likely a temporary workaround. Still very interested if the logs point to a better solution.

Updated to NoMachine 6.10.12 in the hopes that it would fix the GDM white screen issue, but with GDM version 3.36 I still get a white screen trying to remote into a server that I am not already currently logged into. Reverting back to GDM 3.34 for the time being. Hopefully a more permanent fix or workaround can be identified.

Latest gdm launches an additional dbus-daemon for the greeter session, triggering the problem. I’m searching for the best way to fix it.

Thank you for the update.  Happy to test any workarounds you may come up with, switching back and forth between gdm 3.34 and 3.36 is pretty simple.

We have reproduced it. A fix will be released along with the next version.

I had this issue too, my workaround was to use lightdm instead of gdm3

@eric.duveau – Thanks, I used to use lightdm but find that gdm works better with gnome.  At the moment version 3.34 is working so I’ll stick with it for the time being.
