Version 7.0.211
OS: Windows 10
From a nxclient device, when you are connected to the user’s desktop, whenever you close the NoMachine player (not the remote desktop session) by just using the overlay icon on taskbar, the nx tray icon will be closed also.
However, if you close NoMachine player (not the remote desktop session) by just clicking on close button, the nx tray icon will stay on.

The nx tray icon stay on…..

There are already more than enough programs cluttering the systray after they finish doing their job, don’t add this to the list. Used to be I could just start a connection, do my business and close it, and NX Player was out of the way. Now I have two things to close.
Now, consider what the systray is for:
* It’s where you put quick access to fundamental system functions
* It’s where you dock running tasks that shouldn’t be hidden, but also shouldn’t be in the taskbar or foreground all the time
* It’s where you put quick access menus to tools and utilities that call for rapid and quick access to functions.
In some environments NX Player is basically a system fundamental, but that’s the only thing that qualifies. Once you’ve closed all connections, and the server isn’t active, why keep a systray icon? It doesn’t represent a running task or ongoing process. On top of it all it doesn’t even give any meaningful quick access (like showing a connections list, favorites, recently used), it just replicates the start menu. We already have the start menu and desktop icons for exactly that.
I’d really like to see it back to how it was, or a visible option to “Keep systray icon after last connection/window closes”.
Again, there are more than enough icons in the average systray. Don’t clutter it for no useful purpose.

Once you’ve closed all connections, and the server isn’t active, why keep a systray icon?
If you don’t want to see the icon in the system tray, you can of course select ‘Quit the player’ as well, not just shut down the server. Then next time you need to start a session or access the NoMachine settings, you can open it from the applications menu or session shortcut on your desktop. The icon will appear again in the systray.
Use of the systray….this is the usual “integration” problem in the target desktop environment. What the target desktop environment offers is the system tray, where those making the software are supposed to place the most frequently accessed functions.
If you don’t use it, people complain that you don’t use it. If you use it, people complain that you use it. It’s a tough world 🙂
In version 7 we redesigned the interface in order to make the opening of, and access to, multiple sessions faster because this is the most common use we have found amongst our users and what our users asked us for more frequently.
But, as mentioned, doing one thing well and doing more can bring inconvenience for those who preferred an application that did less, better still, one thing. It’s a tough world.
