Hi,
Since I tried to use Dynu DDNS my nxserver for Windows 10 stopped working. I tried to log but I am not sure if they will be helpful. However, when I tried to open nxserver, I’ve got the material in nxserver.exe.txt from Process Explorer. Also, when I try to run nxserver using cmd, another process starts (nxserver.bin) and disappears. The info I could capture from it was:
[A device attached to the system is not functioning.]
Hope the log files being useful.
Thanks,
Eduardo

So everything worked correctly before using Dynu DDNS? Or something else also changed? For example: new version of nomachine was installed?
Also, when I try to run nxserver using cmd, another process starts (nxserver.bin) and disappears.
When you start from cmd, which command are you using? And what output it provides? (you can paste screenshot here with command and it’s output)
Could you try gather logs with steps from here?

About you questions:
“So everything worked correctly before using Dynu DDNS? Or something else also changed? For example: new version of nomachine was installed?”
Yep. Actually, before that I was also able to ssh my computer from the internal network using the public IP with NAT. So I could:
ssh eddie@my_private_ip or
ssh eddie@my_public_ip -p port_number, without leaving my private network and it work in both cases. Now if I want to connect in the second case or use my hostname, I need to be out of my private network (iPhone Personal Hotspot).
“”Also, when I try to run nxserver using cmd, another process starts (nxserver.bin) and disappears.”
I may not be expressed well here, when I double-click nxserver.exe, I see this nxserver.bin showing up and disappearing with the .exe process in the process explorer. Also a prompt screen shows up but the messages just flash on the screen before the window closes. I recorded the screen and the message is (file included):
No valid subscription found. Please visit the NoMachine web site at nomachine.com to acquire a valid subscription. The NoMachine server cannot perform the requested action. Bye.
“Could you try gather logs with steps from here?

File included.

Removed the chocolatey version of the program and installed the one from the website
Tried to follow these two:
https://www.nomachine.com/AR07D00404
https://www.nomachine.com/AR11O00942
From the prompt:
PS C:\Program Files (x86)\NoMachine\bin> ./nxserver –activate “C:\Program Files (x86)\NoMachine\etc\node.lic”
NX> 732 License C:\Program Files (x86)\NoMachine\etc\node.lic is already active.
PS C:\Program Files (x86)\NoMachine\bin> ./nxserver –activate “C:\Program Files (x86)\NoMachine\etc\server.lic”
NX> 732 License C:\Program Files (x86)\NoMachine\etc\server.lic is already active.
Tried to get the .lic files from another machine I installed the program just with this purpose. Still nothing.
Thanks,
Eduardo
January 22, 2021 at 15:23 #31479og00rContributorAre you sure that NoMachine nxserver is not running? I see some nxserver process in process explorer.
But lets find out:
1) Open cmd as admin.
2) go to C:\Program\ Files\ (x86)\NoMachine\bin
3) run command “nxserver –status”
4) if it is disabled then run “nxserver –restart”. (I hope machine was restarted after installation)
(double click on nxserver.exe does nothing as nxserver requires parameters for every operations, so all further commands must be done through cmd with correct parameters “–something”)Please paste here screenshot with output for command from point 3 and point 4.
Also I do not see logs from nxserver or even nxinstall, could you check those both location for them:
C:\ProgramData\NoMachine\var\log\
C:\Users\YourUsername\.nx\There should be (nxinstall.log / nxupdate.log and nxerror.log and nxserver.log). Collect them please.
January 25, 2021 at 09:27 #31512ebiscaiaParticipantHi,
Thanks for helping me. Let’s see if I can give you more data:
Are you sure that NoMachine nxserver is not running? I see some nxserver process in process explorer.
That process lasts as long as nxserver is trying to run. Just checked it here with cmd and the proccess stops being shown when the cmd output is displayed on the screen. But there is the nxservice64 –servicemode that is always running even after all other nx services are off and I can’t kill it. Not sure if there is any relation, though.
Please paste here screenshot with output for command from point 3 and point 4.
C:\Program Files (x86)\NoMachine\bin>nxserver –status
NX> 111 New connections to NoMachine server are enabled.
NX> 162 Disabled service: nxserver.
NX> 162 Disabled service: nxnode.
NX> 162 Disabled service: nxd.
C:\Program Files (x86)\NoMachine\bin>nxserver –restart
NX> 162 Service: nxserver already disabled.
NX> 162 Service: nxnode already disabled.
NX> 162 Service: nxd already disabled.
NX> 162 Disabled service: nxserver.
NX> 162 Disabled service: nxnode.
NX> 162 Disabled service: nxd.
This time with the program open
C:\Program Files (x86)\NoMachine\bin>nxserver –restart
NX> 162 Service: nxserver already disabled.
NX> 162 Service: nxnode already disabled.
NX> 162 Service: nxd already disabled.
NX> 162 Disabled service: nxserver.
NX> 162 Disabled service: nxnode.
NX> 162 Disabled service: nxd.
C:\Program Files (x86)\NoMachine\bin>nxserver –startup
NX> 162 Disabled service: nxserver.
NX> 162 Disabled service: nxnode.
NX> 162 Disabled service: nxd.
Also I do not see logs from nxserver or even nxinstall, could you check those both location for them:
I reran the logs and included the files from both folders. Hope that helps.
Best regards,
Eduardo

January 27, 2021 at 15:23 #31605og00rContributorOk thanks for last outputs.
As I’m trying reproduce issue, but please in meantime paste here output of:
nxserver –subscription run also in cmd as admin.
nxserver –version run also in cmd as admin.and paste yours server.lic if possible. As it looks like problem with get correct product id from it.
January 28, 2021 at 15:31 #31620ebiscaiaParticipantHi,
Here are the outputs of the commands:
c:\Program Files (x86)\NoMachine\bin>nxserver –subscription
NX> 622 You appear to run an NoMachine free version. Please visit
NX> 622 the NoMachine Web site at http://www.nomachine.com/
NX> 622 if you want to use NoMachine for business purposes.
c:\Program Files (x86)\NoMachine\bin>nxserver –version
NoMachine – Version 7.0.211
I also attached the server.lic file and node.lic (just in case).
Thank you,
Eduardo
February 1, 2021 at 12:30 #31652og00rContributorOk, looks like some problem with starting the main process, as I do not see any logs from it on restart.
I guess you restarted already the whole machine a few times and it still happens. Could you try to make a fresh install?
Delete C:\Program Files (x86)\NoMachine after uninstall. Then reinstall again without activating licenses (they should be activate since installation).
Also, ensure that the computer is correctly restarted after the installation process.
Are you using some external firewall/antivirus which could block NoMachine processes?Did you forward correct ports in that Dynu DNS?
Here is an article with the ports NoMachine needs:
https://www.nomachine.com/AR01L00770Did you try back to setup without Dynu?
February 4, 2021 at 02:28 #31729ebiscaiaParticipantJust did ./nxserver.exe –restart and received the same message about the subscription which makes me wonder if it is a case of a registry input. Will try another fresh install during the day.
February 4, 2021 at 09:08 #31727ebiscaiaParticipantHi,
Sorry for the late reply. I deleted the folders and also some registry info (couldn’t delete all of them because I was not allowed to for some of them even with admin permissions), reset the computer, installed the program, reset the computer and tried to run NoMachine. It did not work. Redid it and decided to install an old version. Nothing. Then, I tried to change the port to 4001 in this old version and try to make it run. As the lights turned green I thought it was running. Therefore, I tried to log in with another computer. Nothing. I saved some logs to see if that would help.
Thanks

February 8, 2021 at 17:32 #31829og00rContributorI received only logs from client side, after reinstall. But there is error:
Failing reason is ‘The remote host ‘192.168.1.102’ refused to establish a network connection on port ‘4000’. Please verify that NoMachine is correctly installed and listening on the port where you are trying to connect, and that incoming traffic is not being blocked by a firewall or NAT.’.
are able to ping that machine (192.168.1.102) from one where nxclient is?
Are you sure that ports 4000 and 4001 are open in firewall? Or they are forwarded in dynu dns?February 22, 2021 at 08:58 #32067ebiscaiaParticipantHi,
After giving a break to deal with other stuff, I tried to check where the problem could be. Still didn’t make a big change but it seems like I also had a permission issue. After giving my user full access to the license files theĀ dot where it shows the server status changed from gray to red. I can’t connect, nonetheless.
Just uploading the log files after the change.
Thanks,
Eduardo

March 10, 2021 at 13:33 #32332og00rContributorPlease check in the process explorer if it is running nxservice.exe or nxservice64.exe also check if in task manager in tab “services” nxservice is running.
If all the above are running please enable logs one more time and send them on the forum. To do that you need to follow the instructions here: How to gather debug logs for support requests.
I guess there is no problem with the license reading but I don’t see if the main server is starting (you send disabled logs and they don’t tell much). Thanks!
