Difference in NoMachine Free vs Enterprise for SCCM (endpoint managment)

Hello there,

I am an IT admin, packaging up the Enterprise version for SCCM. I need to set some detection criteria, but from I can see, there is no difference in the displayname between the free version and the Enterprise version.

I’ve looked in the registry, but couldn’t find any difference.

If I use the display name, and someone has the free version installed, it would simply mark the deployment of the enterprise version as “Installed” which would be false.

Is there a way to tell the difference between the 2 versions? Something like registry, programfiles, programdata?

Hi, the name of the product can be obtained either by running from command line nxserver --version or from the /etc folder which contains the server.lic file (which will show you the name of the installed product).

That is not helpful in my case, unfortunately, as I need to be able to differentiate between the apps at the time of install, using something like a registry key.
That is needed to customize the detection criteria for both apps.

As an example, I cannot use:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\NoMachine_is1
DisplayName = NoMachine
DisplayVersion = 7.10.2
as it’s the same value for both the freeVersion and the Enterprise Edition.

I may have found a solution, but I need to test it out. Input from your side would be highly appreciated.
I noticed that:
HKLM\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\nxhtd
…exists in the registry only if I have the Enterprise Edition installed, it does not exist if I have the free Edition. I might be able to use that.

If there are any other ideas, I would be very grateful for any suggestions.

Whilst we take a closer look at what possible options are available to you, I’ll explain what nxhtd is. This is the NoMachine Web Player (our web server) component which permits NoMachine server to accept incoming remote desktop connections from a browser. This is only available in the enterprise-oriented range.

I think that is what I need then, confirmation from your part that nxhtd only exists in the Enterprise version is good enough.
If you find better options, I would be grateful for them, but if you can’t, you already helped me!
