Hi everyone,
I have just installed NoMachine on my Mac under Mojave and asked the remote PC installer to do the same thing on his PC. Once the installation of two computers was finished, I tried to connect to the PC but I get this error message :
“The remote host ‘192….. cannot be found. This issue could be caused by a wrong server address or by a hostname resolution problem. Please verify your configuration and try again. ”
I tried to see if it works with my laptop connected to my house via WIFI, but I get the same error message.
However the address and copied – pasted impossible to be wrong.
Thank you for your attention

to be able to connect a computer which is not on your same LAN, you need to use the public IP address of the computer you want to access. Please check the following articles if you have not already done so:
How to connect over the Internet (enable UPnP to automatically configure port mapping)
https://kb.nomachine.com/AR10T01175How to connect over the internet to NoMachine behind a NAT router
https://kb.nomachine.com/AR04S01122The External IP of the computer you want to access can be checked by its owner on whatismyip.com and then communicated to you.
If this doesn’t help, please send a screenshot of the error message you are receiving when you connect to the other person’s PC.

January 10, 2023 at 10:10 #42397BritgirlKeymasterHi, it’s possible to use the format “192.168.1.180:4000” in its entire form in the Search field if you want to start a connection without going into “Add”. Typing or pasting in the Search field of the Machines roster will 1) find your connection if you have configured a similar one already or 2) ask you to connect to new host or configure connection to new host.
If you are in the Add section, then you must separate the URL from the port 🙂

The issue could either be caused by a networking problem, by a firewall or NAT blocking incoming traffic or by a wrong server address. Please verify your configuration and try again.”
Very very kind of you, but unfortunately it still doesn’t work. I’m on a Mac but the person on the other side is on a Windows 10 PC and knows nothing about computers. She managed to install NoMachine and that’s all. What should she look at?
I was able to connect with [removed] but the free version doesn’t allow more than a few minutes.
January 12, 2023 at 18:22 #42457BritgirlKeymasterYou mentioned an another remote desktop product which works differently to NoMachine. With that product you connect via their service which is on their server in the middle, so it removes the need for knowing network details such as IP addresses and configuration for port-forwarding.
The error message indicates that you need to configure your router for port-forwarding. Did you follow the instructions in the articles I pasted? In the future, we will provide NoMachine Network which you can read about here https://www.nomachine.com/network. It will remove the need to follow those instructions I provided and make connecting much simpler.
January 13, 2023 at 11:19 #42463josefkaParticipantThanks again, do you mean I have to configure the router for port-forwarding on my side, Mac, or on her side, Windows?
January 13, 2023 at 17:00 #42477BritgirlKeymasterSorry for not specifying. The changes in configuration must be made on the server side. Where I mentioned,
How to connect over the internet to NoMachine behind a NAT router
https://kb.nomachine.com/AR04S01122with reference to #2.2, the person who needs to allow connections in will need to configure their computer as per those instructions that I mentioned in my earlier reply. They must then communicate the IP address to you and you use that to connect to their machine.
