Hi all, I like the NoMachine product and would like to continue using it.

I am running NoMachine server on

‘  Kernel: 5.15.0-94-generic x86_64 bits: 64 compiler: gcc v: 11.4.0 Desktop: Cinnamon 5.8.4.     tk: GTK 3.24.33 wm: muffin vt: 7 dm: LightDM 1.30.0 Distro: Linux Mint 21.2 Victoria  base: Ubuntu 22.04 jammy

and a Macbook client. Everything works just fine when I have a monitor, keyboard attached to the server. However, my Linux use-case is the machine is physically out of sight with no monitor, keyboard or mouse attached.

If I use NoMachine client when there is no monitor attached to the server, I cannot see the whole remote desktop, no matter how many different combinations of display settings I try. At best I can see the middle third of the screen.

I believe I might need some kind of dummy display app installed but cannot figure out myself to achieve it.

I am fairly new to Linux so I am finding potential solutions in these forums and other places, but with my limited knowledge I don’t know if that same solution applies.

    Many thanks,

    — Dano

Issue can be marked as solved. I bought a dummy HDMI connection. No software based solutions found

Hi, thanks for letting us know know. If you also tried ‘Scale to window’ mode instead of ‘viewport’ and that didn’t help, it could be related to the GPU on your Linux host that makes available only one resolution when the monitor is not present. A dongle “tricks” the system into thinking the monitor is attached.

It’s one of the workarounds for connecting to headless hosts. See our article in the KB for reference:
