Kubuntu 25.04 KDE Wayland black screen (NM 9.0.188)

Hello,

I’ve never been able to get NoMachine to work with Plasma Wayland (KDE), even with NoMachine 8 and Ubuntu 24.

Whenever I try to log in to this PC with a NoMachine client (Windows or Android), I get a black screen where I can see and move the cursor, but that’s it.

It works perfectly fine with Plasma X11 but I would love to finally switch to Wayland and NoMachine is the only thing that prevents me to do it.

I emailed you the log file in debug mode:

– 2025-05-31 14:55 is the first attempt with a fresh NoMachine installation (all configuration and logs deleted), so the configuration is set to default.

– 2025-05-31 14:57 is the second attempt after changing “WaylandModes egl,drm,compositor” to “WaylandModes drm,egl,compositor” in /usr/NX/etc/node.cfg and restarting the server.

OS : Ubuntu 25.04 (plucky)
Kernel : 6.14.0-15-generic #15-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Sun Apr  6 15:05:05 UTC 2025 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
NoMachine : Nomachine for Linux 9.0.188 (used to share an already opened desktop session)
GPU driver : nvidia-driver-575 (575.51.02-0ubuntu0~gpu25.04.1)
Misc : triple screen

I have the same exact problem, the connexion work, I can move the mouse and use keyboard and sound. But Screen is black

I thought 9.0.188 would fix it

I have the same problem with Ubuntu Studio 25.04. Logged in perfectly, but remote has only white screen.

To make the long story short, I have had the same problem with version 9.0.188 under wayland (but not X11) on the server side, but upgrading to 9.1.24 has solved the problem.  Gott sei Dank!

I’m not as happy with wayland as the OP says he is, but since Kubuntu is rumored soon to cease to provide X11 in default installs (maybe starting with 25.10?), I figure it’s time to get with the program.

I am still having this problem – KDE+Wayland=Blackscreen with cursor – on Arch, even after installing 9.1.24

@Britgirl – anything I could try to do to rootcause the issue?
