Geo1234ParticipantHi All,
I have a couple of problems related to the keyboard. I am using Windows 10 to connect to Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS (Gnome).
Both the NoMachine client and server are at Version 9.0.188.
The first problem is caps lock. It seems to toggle the remote Ubuntu station through 3 conditions like this:
- aaaaaaaaaaaaaa
- AaAaAaAaAaAa
- AAAAAAAAAA
Command “xset q” on Ubuntu reveals that caps lock is not changing state. It seems always off.
The second problem is with the numeric keypad. Num lock seems to toggle the remote Ubuntu station through 3 states like this:
- 1,end,1,end,1,end
- 111111111111111111
Command “xset q” on Ubuntu reveals that Num Lock is not changing state. It seems always off.
Thanks for the help!

BilbotineParticipantHi Geo1234,
Thanks for reaching out.
Unfortunately, we are not able to reproduce this issue. Can you please describe us the exact step-by-step instructions to reproduce the problem ?
Also, can you tell us if the Ubuntu server runs with Wayland or X11 ?

Geo1234ParticipantHi Bilbotine,
The Ubuntu server runs with Wayland.
As for step by step instructions:
- boot both machines
- launch NoMachine on Windows
- Connect to Ubuntu machine
- Log in to Ubuntu machine
- Launch Text Editor app
- observe improper Caps lock and Num pad behavior
Thanks for the help on this..

BritgirlKeymasterWe are still unable to reproduce. One thing it might be is the autorepeat function on Ubuntu. It’s one of the known limitations listed here in our notes about connecting to physical displays running Wayland: https://kb.nomachine.com/AR02P00969.
To disable autorepeat on Ubuntu 24, you can adjust the keyboard repeat settings in the Accessibility settings. Open the Activities overview, search for “Accessibility”, and click on it. Then, select “Typing” and find the “Repeat Keys” section. You can either switch it off entirely or adjust the “Delay” and “Speed” sliders to customize the autorepeat behaviour. It’s worth a try.
It would also be useful to know if you get the same identical problem when connecting from a different OS. If possible, install NoMachine on a completely different OS and start a new connection to the same Ubuntu server.
