The Problem: When I attempt to connect to my Pop!_OS machine using the NoMachine client, the screen turns completely white immediately after I log in.

    Environment:

    OS: Pop!_OS 24.04

    NoMachine Version: 9.3.7

    Desktop Environment: COSMIC (Default)

    Display Server: Wayland (Default)

    VGA controller:

        • Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Phoenix3 (rev c9)
        • DeviceName: Realtek
        • Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Phoenix3
        • Kernel driver in use: amdgpu

    Technical Findings

Server Logs: The logs contain the following error: WARNING! Failed to open display :1. (Full logs have been sent via email).

Current Workaround: If I switch the display manager to GDM3 and disable Wayland (Wayland=false), NoMachine works. However, this forces me to use KDE Plasma (X11) instead of the default desktop.

Goal: I want to use NoMachine to access the default COSMIC Desktop running on Wayland without having to switch to X11 or a different desktop environment.

Hi, our initial tests show that using the compositor or the EGL method does not work whilst the DRM screen capture method does. Please enable it by editing /usr/NX/etc/node.cfg and setting the WaylandModes key by removing the pre-pending # from the key name WaylandModes drm. You can also try to use GPU non-proprietary drivers. In some cases DRM can fail when AMD drivers are used.
