Trying to connect from Windows 7 to Linux Ubuntu 15.10. Two days ago, downloaded NoMachine free on Linux box (laptop, actually), then tested to connection with a computer in my lab with the laptop on a wireless connection. Everything worked, but this is not the connection I need. Took the Linux machine home, physically plugged into router. Got IP address. Then installed NM Free on the Windows 7 machine in my office, and tried to make a connection. It didn’t work, with an Error 138. Thinking this might be a licensing issue, I uninstalled NM on both the linux and windows machines, and completed a new install. I get the same Error 138. The error log includes:

3356 6312 07:26:59 479.624 ClientServerMethods: Failed to retrieve server version from:
‘NX> 611 No subscription information found. Please visit the
    NX> 611 NoMachine web site at http://www.nomachine.com/
    NX> 611 to acquire a valid subscription.
NX> 611 The NX server can’t perform the requested operation.
    NX> 999 Bye.

But the error log also includes:

    3356 2240 07:40:16 884.379 Connection: Started connection at 0x05e900d0.
    3356 2240 07:40:16 894.379 ClientSession: Started session at 0x0085f500.

3356 2240 07:40:46 925.191 ClientSession: Failing reason is ‘Could not connect to the server.
Error is 138: Connection timed out’.

I would be very happy to send the logs. Not sure why I can’t connect. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

From what you pasted it looks like a licence issue. Can you describe the exact steps to produce problem? Did you change license file? How did you uninstall NoMachine?

Please try to remove again NoMachine on Ubuntu by using command:
    sudo dpkg -r nomachine
    and remove all NX folders:
    sudo rm -rf /usr/NX /etc/NX

    and install once again.

You said also that you couldn’t connect from home to server on your lab. Please make sure that you’re using the correct IP address and port.

    Thanks for the help.

I followed the instructions for removing NM from the Linux machine. Then re-installed. I made sure that port 4000 was forwarded. I then reinstalled NM on the windows machine, and I got the same exact error as before

‘NX> 611 No subscription information found. Please visit the
    NX> 611 NoMachine web site at http://www.nomachine.com/
    NX> 611 to acquire a valid subscription.
NX> 611 The NX server can’t perform the requested operation.
    NX> 999 Bye.

    . . .

Again, I was previously able to get a connection, however it was a connection that I will not be using much. Any help is greatly appreciated. This is becoming quite frustrating.

    Thanks –

It looks like there was a NoMachine directory on that Windows before you installed NoMachine package again. Please try uninstalling the program and if the directory ‘NoMachine’ still exists, remove it (it’s in %ProgramFiles% folder) and install again.

About problems with the connection. Are you sure that you entered Public IP (not local IP) of lab machine in connection settings in nxplayer? In the following article there are instructions how to connect to NoMachine when the server is behind a NAT router or a firewall https://www.nomachine.com/AR11L00827. That should help.
