Black screen and mouse pointer at boot after install

System:

Win 7 Pro 64-bit

ThinkPad W500

NoMachine 4.2.27_1

I just installed NoMachine 4.2.27_1 onto my laptop. Install process went off without any signs of anything unusual. However, upon rebooting after the install I get the “Starting Windows” animation and then am presented with a black screen and a white mouse pointer. Nothing else. No login screen. Three-finger salute doesn’t produce any response. I can move the mouse cursor around, but that’s it. I’ve powered it off a couple of times and let it boot up with the same results. Here are the things I’ve tried and the results:

Safe Mode and got the same mouse cursor result.

Tried to connect via NoMachine but the laptop couldn’t be found on the network.

I’ve tried go back to the restore point created when NoMachine was installed, but same result.

I’ve also tried the Safe Mode with low-res video mode and all I got was a blank screen w/o the afore mentioned mouse pointer.

Tried connecting via RDP but the laptop couldn’t be found on the network.

I’ve got a backup, but its a month old and I’d rather not go back to it.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to extricate myself from this situation?

Hi, this is a customized to order PC, not one that Windows users would easily find. It’s not reproducable on any standard Windows PCs. Further investigation on that specific hardware will be required in order to understand what’s triggering it.
