Hi,
I’m running the latest NX Server (5.1.42) on Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 7.1 (Maipo) and the client on Windows 8.1. Both are the free version. When I try to connect to the server, on the client side, it just hangs on “Connecting to <hostname>”. I’m using the default setting (and using the NX protocol – the SSH protocol is not supported with the free version). Below is a snippet from the nxserver.log. Any ideas?

It looks as if you don’t have a desktop environment installed. NoMachine looks for the default desktop on Linux and configures everything for you. If you don’t have a DE you need to install one. You can either install a DE, then set the following key manually:
DefaultDesktopCommand in node.cfg e.g DefaultDesktopCommand “/etc/gdm/Xsession gnome-session'”
or if you don’t want to do it manually, you can uninstall NoMachine, install the DE such as Gnome or KDE, then reinstall NM.
