Cannot detect any display running

    Hi – I get the “Cannot detect any display running” message when attempting to connect to the physical display of my Linux workstation.

    – Running free version 5.1.26 on both local and remote machines

    – Attempting to connect to physical display

    – Remote (Server) machine is Linux Fedora Core 23, Local (Client) is Mac OS X El Capitan

    – Using GNOME on the FC 23 machine.

    [satyen@autarch ~]$ sudo /usr/NX/bin/nxserver –restart
    NX> 162 Disabled service: nxserver.
    NX> 162 Disabled service: nxnode.
    NX> 162 Disabled service: nxd.
    NX> 161 Enabled service: nxserver.
    NX> 162 WARNING: Cannot find X servers running on this machine.
    NX> 162 WARNING: A new virtual display will be created on demand.
    NX> 161 Enabled service: nxd.

    Hello.

    The most probable cause for this problem is that Fedora 23 uses Wayland instead of X server. NoMachine is not yet compatible with Wayland, so disabling it is the only way to fix it.

    By default Wayland is enabled on Login Window, to disable it for GDM, please edit

    /etc/gdm/custom.conf

    And under the tag

    [daemon]

    make sure the only line containing WaylandEnable field is:

    WaylandEnable=false

    Please let us know if it helps, or if the problem persists after disabling Wayland.

    Thanks.  That solved the connection issue but now I am faced with black screen after logging into the remote machine.

    I found this thread with changing gdm->lightdm…is this the correct solution?

    It could help. Try it and let us know.

    You should update to the latest version in any case. Let us know if you still have a black screen issue.
