    Hi !M

I use my Mac to connect to a couple different Linux systems. It’d be a nice bit of personalization if I could use a custom icon for each machine. I know they’re just PNG files (I peeked inside the Mac app bundle). Any chance?

Hi. Your proposal would be technically easy to implement, but those icons are very important to identify each item, so for consistency reasons it would not be a good idea to allow to customize them. Furthermore that list will be soon expanded to include more items, so it’ll be even more important to keep it easy and clear! 🙂

By the way, since they’re only PNG files you can replace them 🙂

They’re only PNG files, but I can’t assign icon A to machine A and icon B to machine B. Sometimes I dream up solutions to problems that don’t even exist. It’s a bad habit. I’ll try to stop. Thanks for the replies and keep up the good work. !M is a great product.

Your dream may come true actually! 🙂 It’s pretty annoying that you can’t change those icons, so we are elaborating a solution that will allow to change the connection icon, and we’re studying how to reflect the change also in the file managers of operating systems supported by NoMachine (this is a quite complex topic, as you can imagine).

For anyone else who wants to customize things a little, here’s what I did. I made aliases to the connection “documents” for my two different Linux machines. I changed the alias icons using the technique described here: https://support.apple.com/kb/PH25383?locale=en_US

Now I have two nice icons in my Mac dock, one with the Gnome icon and another with the KDE icon. Clicking either one launches NoMachine and starts the connection.
