I have been using NoMachine from Windows to Windows without any problem. I can even access my computer over the internet.
I just got a new computer with Ubuntu Desktop installed. When I tried to connect to it from NoMachine (Windows), I got a connection timeout message, on port 4000.
Is there anything I should check (and possibly if you can please guide me on how to check) to make this work?
Thank you.
September 28, 2023 at 16:05 #45472BritgirlKeymasterIn NoMachine version 8 (for new installations), UPnP/NAT-PMP is disabled by default in the Free Edition. To get access to your computer over the Internet, NoMachine’s UPnP/NAT-PMP port mapping must be enabled by hand (‘Server settings -> Ports’ -> Select the service and click on Configure); or alternatively, your router can be configured with the appropriate port-forwarding rule.

Does this help?
September 28, 2023 at 19:18 #45477afunwormParticipantHi.
Thank you for your response. I understand how to make it work over the internet. I think the problem I am having is that I can’t even connect to my Ubuntu NoMachine from any other NoMachine (on Windows or Android) within the LAN. It keeps timing out. I am not sure if there’s a settings on Ubuntu that blocks the incoming connection. Firewall-wise, I have unblocked port 4000 for both incoming and outgoing traffic.
Is there anything else I should check?
Thank you.
September 29, 2023 at 13:50 #45488BritgirlKeymasterCan you tell us what IP address is being used? I.e you are definitely using the LAN’s IP.
Is it a virtual machine perhaps?
The logs would also be useful from the server. To gather those up, please follow the instructions here:

IP address of the target is 192.168.86.50:4000 (the internal IP). I checked the configuration for that machine on the list screen. NoMachine on my Windows discovered that NoMachine on Ubuntu in the same network automatically. It just cannot connect to it.
I have attached the logs here. I hope it helps.
