In some environments my systems auth using SSS and krb5 auth to a domain. On these systems, the typical NoMachine GUI prompt for upgrade (where it prompts for your administrative password) fails repeatedly. This started recently, maybe 3 weeks ago? (uncertain what introduced it and haven’t done any isolation yet).

This used to work just fine without issue for a few years now… but suddenly stopped working after some recent NoMachine service update.

On systems that are not tied into SSS, the NoMachine upgrade works as per usual.

    BASELINE:

    /etc/sssd/sssd.conf

(unable to post the contents of this …)

    Steps to reproduce:

NoMachine Preferences, Updates, Check for Updates, Continue Update, <ENTER_PASSWORD>, it fails with:

“Please verify that administrator username and password are correct”

I don’t see any useful logs written for the failed auth attempt in /usr/NX/var/log.

Please consult the following article for instructions on how to enable logs.

Reproduce the issue and send us <home_directory>/.nx, /usr/NX/var/log and /etc/sssd/sssd.conf.

You can also check the content of /var/log/secure or /var/log/auth.log (depending on distro) for entries suggesting authentication failure.
