My local machine runs Ubuntu 20.04. NoMachine 7.7.4 is installed here, only to be used as a client.
I have a remote machine which runs on a server in my closet. This is a virtualized system on KVM. It runs Ubuntu 20.04. NoMachine 7.7.4 is installed here, and only used as a server. It is currently configured via the GUI to allow uploads and downloads.
I also have a remote machine which runs in the Linode cloud. This is a virtualized system on KVM. It runs Ubuntu 20.04. NoMachine 7.7.4 is installed here, and only used as a server. It is currently configured via the GUI to allow uploads and downloads.
All other settings are the same between the two.
When connected to the server in my closet, I can drag and drop files successfully, upload and download. But when connected to the server in the Linode cloud, I can only upload to the server successfully. The file will selected, pressed and held, and dragged from the file explorer to the edge of the NoMachine window, where it stops. I cannot push the cursor (and file) past this window. Attaching a disk is successful and transfers work both ways in this fashion.
I need assistance troubleshooting my inability to download via drag and drop from this server. I have tried to update everything. I have toggled the settings back and forth. I also attempted to look in the logs but have found nothing.
Thanks.

echo $WAYLAND_DISPLAY
executed in a terminal window on both servers?December 7, 2021 at 17:40 #36591eggieman6ParticipantThe reply is blank for both server. Nothing is returned.
December 7, 2021 at 19:37 #36592eggieman6ParticipantI accidentally created another post about this topic, but included more details there. Here are the extra details –
Wayland is not running on either. It shows X11 (x.org). I don’t have multiple users logged in. All machines have default Gnome desktop environment installed – Gnome 3.36.8.
I have spent all day troubleshooting this. The only thing of interest is that the server in my LAN shows :0 and run level 5 when a who -a command is issued in the terminal. I did configure this machine a few years ago. The Linode server shows two tty users and run-level 3. This machine was created a couple months ago.

Also, I believe Ubuntu 20.04.3 only uses Wayland for the startup login screen, and then uses X11 by default afterwards.
