OSX has low FPS when connecting from Windows

I have a Windows notebook Acer Aspire 5749 as a connecting computer and macOS machine as a remote target with not bad configuration (3.19 GHz Intel Core i5, AMD Radeon HD 7xxx 2048 MB), I use a 100 mbit internet(also tried local) connection. And I get max 5 fps. When I use the computers vice versa, I get pretty decent image, about 20 fps. Where should I search for problem?

I would start with checking the CPU usage on both machines.

When connecting to the Mac from the notebook: notebook ~20%, mac ~10% cpu load

When session is active press Ctrl+Alt+0 to access the menu then Display then Change settings.
Take a screenshot of the settings for the two cases (Windows connected to remote OSX, vice versa).

Both are pretty much the same they all have the checkboxes off at this screen. I also tried to change resolution and quality to the minimum values and that gave no effect(same 5-10 fps), and that is strange.

Can you try to issue a ‘ping’ command from the Windows host to the Mac and tell us the result?

Is the Mac host a headless machine (Mac Mini with no monitor attached)?

Finally, please try to edit the ‘/Applications/NoMachine.app/Contents/Frameworks/etc/node.cfg’ file. Add there this line:

DisplayServerExtraOptions “-nostreamgrab”

That will enable an alternative screen capture method. After applying the change, you will have to restart the server:

sudo /Applications/NoMachine.app/Contents/Frameworks/bin/nxserver –restart

Ping from windows to Mac is about 7ms average, but sometimes for some reason it goes up to 200ms(not more than that).

Mac has a monitor, but I also tried to disconnect it before connecting.

I have edited the file with ‘sudo vi’ and tried to restart nomachine with your command but received:

NX> 596 ERROR: Invalid command: ‘–restart’

So I just restarted nomachine from it’s GUI menu. When I try to connect now from windows machine I get what is displayed on the screenshots.

Sorry, it looks like there was a formatting problem. It should be ‘- -restart’ (without the space). But to make it easy, you can just reboot the machine.

Should you still be unable to connect after restart (or reboot), please send us the logs for further investigations (https://www.nomachine.com/DT07M00098). You can send them to forum[at]nomachine[dot]com.

As for performance, let’s see how it will be after the configuration change is applied, but it has to be noted that 200ms is quite a long ping time.
