When I try to connect to Ubuntu 16.04 from a Macbook, the server resolution is not changed to match the client resolution. I tried to specify several specific resolutions, but that doesn’t work either. It just keeps on the resolution of the physical screen.

to investigate further we would need you to reproduce the problem, collect logs from both sides and send them to forum[at]nomachine[dot]com.

Can you confirm that you are using the newest (5.2.21) version on both sides? If no, please ugrade and then try to reproduce the problem.
If that won’t help, you can try and select the specific display you want to resize. You can do it with the “Change monitor” button in the Display menu, or with the keystroke Ctrl+Alt+<monitor id>.
If none of the above helps are you willing to use a debug package, so that we can gather more logs?Just as an additional datapoint, my system too experiences the lack of functionality described here.
I had to write an xrandr wrapper script to run upon connection as a workaround. (which is not ideal of course)
I realized that the .nx-directory I sent was from the server side. I just sent an e-mail containing the directory from the client side.
Both sides are running 5.2.21. Selecting the specific display didn’t help (I actually tried that already). Of course I would be willing to use a debug package.
@NetForce, we got both sets of logs. Thanks! If we need to send you a debug package for the Ubuntu side, can you tell us whether it’s 32 or 64bit please?
A bit of testing on a server with dual physical monitors:
* connecting from a client with dual monitors, different resolution, the system DOES NOT fix the resolution
* connecting from a client with single monitor, different resolution, the system DOES fix the resolution
So it could be specific to dual monitor –> dual monitor?
The client I’m connecting from is a Macbook without an external monitor attached. So to me, it doesn’t seem specific to dual -> dual
I just rebooted the server machine, and now I can change the resolution using the display options. But it still doesn’t work on connecting. So after connecting I have to change it twice to actually have the resolution I am after.
