Server permanently has no audio even out of session and service stopped

I’m trying NoMachine for the first time today, 8.2.3 on Ubuntu 18.04.  I’m having this problem:

The audio is permanently off. I mean even if I restart with the service not even running.  If I open the control panel I can confirm no service is running, no client connected.  I don’t have “timeshift” or whatever. What am I supposed to do? Reinstall ubuntu?

The workaround is available in the TR, but I will paste it here for reference. On the server side:

edit `/usr/NX/etc/node.cfg and set:

AudioInterface pulseaudio`

and restart nxserver:

sudo /etc/NX/nxserver --restart
