hornetsterParticipantWondering if I can actually get the above combination working? (Headless..)
Have been using headless on Ubuntu 24.04, for a while, but that is Gnome X11… Have been playing with the 26.04 combinations with a monitor, but no luck.
Any chance of getting working with Wayland, on the latest version? Going by suggestions I have read, appears the only way is to use a different desktop that supports X11…
Thanks.

BritgirlKeymasterHi, what kind of “monitor combinations” have you been trying? 🙂
In any case, depending on the video card and drivers, it’s possible that the GPU is turned off on a headless system, so in that case, screen capture would also be impossible. On previous versions of Gnome that still support(ed) X11, NoMachine would be able to create a virtual display in these specific cases, but this won’t work with the version of Gnome that is present in Ubuntu 26.04. Running pure Wayland virtual desktops will be added in NoMachine 10, so watch out for that. For now you could consider using a different desktop environment or attach a dummy HDMI dongle.

BritgirlKeymasterI forgot to add, send logs so we can check it’s not a different issue, https://kb.nomachine.com/DT08U00298#1.1. Submit here or send directly to forum[at]nomachine[dot]dom.

hornetsterParticipantSorry, yes can get working when there IS a monitor connected, wondering about how to get it working WITHOUT a monitor…?
“desktop environment or attach a dummy HDMI dongle.”
Are there good and bad versions of these? Would probably solve the issue…
Apparently with Windows, you can install a Virtual Display Driver, to do this…. Anything like this for Linux/Ubuntu?
Thanks.

kustersParticipantHaving the same issue, wont do Multi-Monitors when its headless running 26.04 on proxmox in my case. I tried forcing it to use ‘vritual desktop’ and other config options. Will look into virtual display or downgrade.
Glad this was posted – most helpful to know this combo isnt currently working!
thanks

BritgirlKeymasterAny HDMI dongle should do the trick, we have not had reports about specific dongles not working. We’re not aware of any “Virtual Display Driver” equivalent for Linux. As mentioned earlier, support for Wayland virtual desktops will be added in NoMachine 10.

hornetsterParticipantHave got the dongle, and YES, it works (mostly..)
Still have to do the connect/login/disconnect/connect to get through when the machine is not initially logged in, but, that DOES work!
Loving it! (Hmmmm, that’s a little bit wierd…!)
Thanks all! (Specially Britgirl!)
