Update process, remote, 3 monitors

I admin a remote system that has 3 monitors. I remote connect to that system (primary monitor 1) and tell it to update from 6.11.2 to 6.12.3 The authentication window pops on monitor 2 or 3 so I have to click top-right and select ALL so I can see all monitors, provide authentication, and update continues successfully. Is it possible for the update process to remain on the primary monitor I connected to? thank you.

local system: Mint 19.3 remote system: Mint 20 desktop: MATE on both

Hi. Did you use the software update window already open and waiting on the screen? What are versions of ‘gksudo’ and ‘zenity’?

The remote system (Mint 20) has zenity 3.32.0, gksudo not installed.

I see similar behavior when I start a program that needs authentication. Example: start gparted on the remote system, the authentication window pops on a different monitor, not on the primary monitor I’m connected to.

This looks to be a weird behaviour of your desktop environment and we can’t help to solve it unfortunately. You could try to run some experiments with xrandr by changing your current primary monitor.

On the remote system, I made the left monitor primary and the right monitor secondary (disconnected the 3rd). When I click on Browse Connections > Settings > Server Preferences > Updates > Check now … all popup windows show on the left monitor (primary).

It must be some issue with zenity identifying which monitor the request came from, and letting zenity popup on that same monitor.
