We have a group of Linux desktops people are trying to remotely connect to from Windows systems.  For some users it works fine but for others when they try to reconnect to their session they get a white screen and it just hangs and after a few minutes it times out and disconnects the person trying to connect.  We’ve even tried connecting to each others session.  If one of the “good” users starts the session than anyone can connect.  If one of the “bad” ones starts the session then no one can connect.

Our accounts are all very vanilla so I don’t think it’s anything in the users unix environment.  We’ve tried multiple ways of connecting into our network (vpn, remote site, main network, etc) and the only thing that seems to stay consistent is the problem follows the particular users.

I did notice that the users having the issues seem to have higher UID’s.  Is there a problem with big UID’s and NoMachine?  (like 7700000 or higher)

Is this a connection to the physical desktop? Does the session works fine before becoming a white screen? Can you verify that the problem shows when the machine on client side loses the connection with network?

We have found a similar problem in such a scenario. The issue should be fixed soon. As a temporary workaround you can terminate suspended session (sudo /usr/NX/bin/nxserver --terminate <session_id>).

Please see the Trouble Report we have open for it: https://www.nomachine.com/TR12M06283

If, on the other hand, the problem is different. please enable debug on server host, restart nxserver (sudo /usr/NX/bin/nxserver --restart) and send /usr/NX/var/log folder from server side and ~/.nx from client side to forum[at]nomachine[dot]com. Instructions about debug and collecting logs you can find there: https://www.nomachine.com/DT07M00098.

    No. It should work fine.

This is for a physical desktop.  We’re running the Desktop software, version 5.3.10

When users connect to a session it seems fine.  Then if they drop the connection and try to reconnect they get the white screen.

For other users they can reconnect fine and resume their existing session.

If one of the users who things seem to work fine for start a session anyone can connect to it, disconnect, reconnect, etc and it’s fine.

If one of the users having issues starts a session, and lets others try to connect those people seem to have the same issue.

So it seems to be related to the person who starts the session.

It looks like the issue documented in the trouble report. We can confirm it is if you send us the logs.
