When starting the nxserver with the command nxserver –startup, I get the following error

authentication as user nx using the nx ssh pair failed. This may be due to configuration of your ssh server.

    What can be wrong?

We will need debug NoMachine server logs to investigate the issue. Please follow the instructions here:

After enable debug logs on problematic machine please execute:
    /etc/NX/nxserver --restart

Please after that try to reproduce the issue
    Send logs to forum[at]nomachine[dot]com

The value of server configuration file SSHAuthorizedKeys, need to be the same as value of SSHD’s AuthorizedKeysFile config key. When is different
authentication base on pair keys will doesnt work.

NXServer config file should be in: /usr/NX/etc/server.cfg
    SSHD config file: /etc/ssh/sshd_config

I have checked that the values of the NXserver config file and SSHD config file are the same regarding the Authorized Keys.

I include the server log attached in this post

Please submit them to the email address that bro provided making sure you put the title of your topic in the subject. Thanks.

The logs show you are using an older version, namely 5.1.x. Please update to the latest version and check whether the issue still persists. If it does, we will need a new set of logs from the Workstation version 6. Issues related to version 5 can be handled in the customer area if you have a valid subscription.

I also suggest you consult the following documentation relative to version 5:
