I’m not exactly sure what is wrong, but when I log in to my RHEL 7.1 server (AWS), all I get is a black screen with an X11 cursor (black X).  I don’t seem to be getting any errors.  I am connecting form a Windows 7 nx client. Oh, and I am able to successfully connect to a different server without any problem. I suspect it may be that the desktop manager isn’t fully or correctly installed.

It seems that originally the server didn’t have a Desktop manager installed.  This is all that is in nxerror.log

nxexecRestoreSavedResourceLimits: Info: Can not open resource limits file.

nxexecRestoreSavedResourceLimits: No such file or directory.

nxexecExecNode: Info: Cant not restore saved resource limits.

Info: Connection from 10.129.208.159 port 55351 closed on Fri Aug 19 14:09:41 2016.

Turns out all I had to do was reboot my system.

Ok, remember there is this which has some tips on setting up Amazon VMs in case you need it.
