    Hi everyone,

I’m using NoMachine on macOS (Retina display) to connect to a remote Ubuntu 22.04.5 LTS machine, and after some time working, my eyes start to hurt. The image looks slightly blurry or over-bright, especially when working with text editors like IntelliJ IDEA or terminals.

Here’s my setup and what I’ve tried so far:

    – macOS with Retina display (laptop screen)
    – Connecting via NX protocol to Ubuntu 22.04.5

Tried changing Display encoding and processing:

    – Enabled hardware encoding and acceleration for display processing
    – Tried H.264 and VP8
    – Limited the frame rate to 25–30 FPS

Also adjusted scaling options in Display (inside NoMachine session):

    – “Scale the remote display to the window”
    – Disabled “Resize remote display to the local window”

Despite this, text rendering still feels slightly soft/blurry compared to local use, and the screen brightness/contrast combination causes eye strain after some time.

Has anyone found the right combination of:

Resolution / scaling between macOS and Ubuntu Display or performance settings in NoMachine?

Any font smoothing or color profile tweaks that help make the text sharper and reduce strain?

Any advice from people using Retina displays + NoMachine + Ubuntu would be really appreciated

    Thanks in advance!

Hi, apologies for the delay in responding. HiDPI support, which is what you need, so that NoMachine can capture the screen of the server at native pixel resolution on such displays, is going to be added in one of the next releases. Work has already started and we’ve raised the priority on it.
