I have a slightly older Windows 10 machine that I’ve been using to remote into a server for a while now. I set the connection up a couple of years ago and I don’t recall if I had issues getting it to work initially, but I’ve not had any trouble with it that I can remember.

I recently bought a new computer with Windows 11 on it. I made a copy of the connection profile from the original machine and put it on the new box, installed NoMachine app and tried to connect. The connection times out and I’m not seeing any errors in the log files other than the simple timeout message. I also tried disabling the windows firewall and virus protection, but no luck.

Connecting machine and server both have v8.8.1. Also only ever use this to remote from my local machine at home to one specific server (Manjaro Linux). It does require login credentials to connect, but so far from the new machine I’ve not been prompted for any.

Looking for some trouble-shooting steps to help figure out what I’m missing here.

Finally realized I had overlooked the Tailscale VPN instance that was supposed to be running in the background.

Yep. Once I reinstalled Tailscale on the new computer and hooked up the tunnel, everything worked fine again.
