Having updated my OS from openSUSE 13.2 to 42.2 and re-installed NoMachine I am no longer able to connect to my physical X session (from a windows client).

    The log file contains:

2017-04-28 16:42:12 099.582  2505 NXSERVER WARNING! checkLocalSession: cannot get session process for display ‘0’.
2017-04-28 16:42:12 122.001  2471 NXSERVER WARNING! Sending warning message ‘NX> 162 WARNING: Cannot find X servers running on this machine.’

    The following processes are running:

    nx        2505     1  0 16:42 ?        00:00:00 /usr/NX/bin/nxserver.bin –daemon
    nx        2543  2505  0 16:42 ?        00:00:00 /usr/NX/bin/nxd
    root     21879  2176  1 Apr27 tty7     00:30:29 /usr/bin/X -nolisten tcp -auth /run/sddm/{71e614d8-31e4-4e3d-9875-1d81597b69e2} -background none -noreset -displayfd 19 vt7

I am now running NoMachine 5.2.21_1 (previously 5.2.11_1).  The window manager is i3.

Thanks, could you tell me a few more details or if there is a workaround?  eg. is the problem the OS or would a different window manager work?

There is no workaround unfortunately. You will either have to switch back to the previous version of OpenSUSE or if that’s not possible you could try a different DE like XFCE4?
