hdloParticipantNoMachine won’t login. It simply says auth fails. MS account login does not work in NoMachine. I’ve therefore made a new local user account and given that admin rights and a password. Still doesn’t work with NoMachine. Then checked Group policies, Windows logs, and now NoMachine’s server.log. Have not found anything useful. What should I look for in the server.log? Thanks

BritgirlKeymasterTake a look at the following topic: https://forum.nomachine.com/topic/user-for-instant-access#post-52574
I’ll post here for convenience. When you login with your MS account, the following formats are possible:
1) User Principal Name:
@ – If you are getting an error, please tell us what error you are seeing when trying to promoted to authenticate on the target Windows machine 2) Down-Level Logon Name:
\ 3) Short format name, just ‘username’, domain is implicit.
A password is required, your Windows OS PIN is not supported. Please also take a look at the following article which explains in more detail: https://kb.nomachine.com/AR03S01118.

hdloParticipantHi, thanks. I am aware of this.
So far I’ve tried Microsoft account on NoMachine server host. I’ve tried local system accounts on NoMachine server host. I don’t have a domain account.
MS account:
I’ve tried my username. Yes I have used ‘whoami’ to confirm username. I tried with the MS account email as well. MS account did not have setup a local??? password, but PIN login on an MS account. So I tried to use my MS account password, which I have indeed testet OK for login at ms.account.com. It fails. “Authentication failed, please try again.” Yes I’ve tried many times, yes I’ve copy pasted the password from my password manager.
Local account:
So I tried creating a local user account on the Nomachine server host. I gave the account administrator access. I did setup the username and password for this account. I have confirmed the account is active etc. yada yada. I have also tested that I actually can login to the account in Windows using the user/pass I just created. Yes, I can. I try using the very same credentials (for Nomachine server host) to login in from Nomachine client. It fails. “Authentication failed, please try again.”
I will now try Windows update and do some checks to find out if the Windows Hello container of the server host is corrupted of out of sync with the MS account…

GuroContributorHello
We’d need to see the server.log and service.log files from the target Windows machine. To extract full logs from the NoMachine Windows server, please go to the Settings > Server > Security and scroll down and click Take logs. You can attach them here or send direct to forum[at]nomachine[dot]com.
The following article https://kb.nomachine.com/AR06W01291 may also be useful to ensure that MS policy is not dropping permissions for NoMachine.

GuroContributorSorry forgot to mention, please ensure that nxservice is running in the system tray on the target Windows machine.
