The desktop has a large ultrawide 5120×1440 monitor and I connect with a small laptop so NoMachine is set to change the desktop resolution to match the laptop’s. This has been working fine recently although has had problems in the past.

When I return to the desktop after disconnect – or if the laptop is still connected and I kick it off from the systray menu – something has broken the X11 or KDE settings so I cannot switch back to the desktop’s native resolution. In KDE system settings there is no error message and it thinks the resolution has changed but it doesn’t take effect. Attempting to change in the nvidia settings errors saying that resolution is not available. xrandr says it couldn’t change the resolution.

Some lower resolutions work but not 5120×1440. 60/120/240hz doesn’t seem to make any difference.

After rebooting the desktop is back to native resolution fine.

KDE Neon 5.27.8 (Ubuntu 22.04), NoMachine server 8.8.1, NVidia 535.113.01.

Hi, can we see server logs, journalctl output, and additionally xrandr output before and after the NoMachine connection?

To get NoMachine server logs, please follow the instructions here and send to forum[at]nomachine[dot]com using “Cannot restore X11/KDE resolution after disconnecting” as the title.

    Thanks.
