Had the same problem with teamviewer before – that my HD output from PC at 1920×1080 pixels aren’t properly scaled on my 27″ iMac (5120×2880) when I go to “Fullscreen”. In fact the screen is displayed but I have 2 big black areas left and right aside from the “window”.
If I try to manually scale the view and enter 1920×1080 the output gets downsized – adding a big black frame around it.

How can I get 1920×1080 properly scaled to my iMac ?

Turn “Resize remote screen” on in the display settings. If it doesn’t work, lkely the reason is that remote PC video card hasn’t a screen mode matching the size 5120×2880. You can stretch the screen content over the available client area by turning on the option “Fit to window”, if you find that kind of view is better.
