I habitually connect to an M1 MacBook Air from a Windows 10 machine using NoMachine.
Until recently, I had an issue where, to make sure modifier keypresses were registered when using keyboard shortcuts in MacOS, I would have to physically hit the modifier keys harder than normal.
Now, seemingly after recent updates, I have the opposite problem: I don’t have to hit the key harder, but maybe 40-60% of the time, after using a shortcut with the Command key, the Mac acts as if the Command key is still held down, leading to unexpected behaviour when subsequently using the keyboard and mouse. This can be cancelled by hitting Command or Escape, but is quite frustrating.
I am unsure whether the same thing happens with other modifier keys, but my feeling is that it doesn’t.
Software, Hardware and OS
- NoMachine version 7.6.2 (both machines), connecting to a physical display
- Windows 10 version 1909 as ‘Windows To Go’ running on a 2012 27″ iMac.
- MacOS 11.4 running on an M1 MacBook Air
- Razer BlackWidow Elite keyboard.

https://www.nomachine.com/TR10Q09439
During our tests we’ve found this issue occurs when Sticky Keys are enabled on Windows, could you please verify if that is your case? The configuration can be checked in Settings, Ease of Access, Keyboard, Use Sticky Keys.

Sticky Keys is disabled on my Windows machine, but the ‘press shift 5 times’ setting to toggle it on/off was enabled. I’ve now disabled that as well. I doubt that Sticky Keys has been switched on recently due to accidental keypresses and I would never normally use it. But, just in case I accidentally toggled it and then untoggled it, I’ll keep an eye on it for a while and keep you updated.

Could you please contact us at forum[at]nomachine[dot]com? We’d like to send you a debug binary to retrieve some logs.September 24, 2021 at 20:56 #35446OxygeneralistParticipantSorry, I currently don’t have access to the Windows installation because my iMac is awaiting me to do a big repair job on it. I’ll contact you when it’s back up and running with Windows 10 installed, but that will be under Boot Camp at that point with the latest version of Windows 10 instead of 1909. I also don’t know when I’m going to get around to the repair or whether I’ll be successful with it.
