Connecting home desktop (A) to corporate laptop (B) – both Win10

Hello,

Complete beginner here, having a hard time understanding networks and related terminology. Installed latest NoMachine package (6.9.2) on both A and B (both Win10) but get a “Connection timeout” error when trying to connect to B from A. Likely a corporate firewall issue or perhaps the fact that A is connected to my home network via tethered phone while B is connected directly via Wi-Fi?

Stumbled on the the following guide but confused as to what it is recommending to do: https://www.nomachine.com/AR11L00827

If I go onto my router (Archer C7) page, NoMachine is listed as an app under Forwarding>UPnP with things like External Port, Protocol, Internal Port,IP Address & Status listed and Status is listed as Enabled. So I’m guessing I don’t need to open a port (not even sure what that means)? Not sure what UPnP/NAT-PMP mean either

Is there something I should configure on my home Wi-Fi router? Is it my work blocking access to my laptop?

Hoping someone would be able to walk me through the steps to troubleshoot this in a very basic manner.

What I have understood is that you are trying to connect from your home to your corporate Windows machine.

Would recommend that you check with your IT department if they can provide you vpn access or port forwarding from your office public IP to the local machine NoMachine port.

Yep, that’s what I am trying to do.

Does IT department need to grant me VPN access or port forwarding for me to connect? There is no other way to remote in my laptop since both my laptop and desktop are connected to same home Wi-Fi

Hi,

I understood your corporate computer was at your company’s location (ie. in the office), when in fact they are both at home.

Is connecting from A to B possible? Is connecting from B to A possible?

To be able to connect from A to B or vice-versa when both are at the same location, it is strongly recommend you:

– Connect both machines to the same wifi

An alternative solution if connecting both machines to the same wifi is not possible is to configure “Connect a network port” in NoMachine described here: https://www.nomachine.com/DT10O00157#4.4.
When port is forwarded then connect from Machine A to machine B using the IP shown like on the uploaded image.
