I have multiple devices using NoMachine – Windows 10, MX-Linux, CrunchBangPlusPlus, SparkyLinux, Android. All have been upgraded from 7.8.2 thru 8.0.168 to 8.1.2 (Android still at 6.1.9). All but 1 device receive inbound connections & complete outbound connections – both server & client functionality works including transfer files. The 1 device works as expected (client & server) when I install 7.8.2, but will “crash” using any version 8. This (LEGACY) device is:

ACER AX1420-UR10P (EL1352G – eMachines Desktop), AMD Athlon II X4 645 Processor, 4GB RAM, (Dell) [AMD/ATI] Caicos Radeon HD 6450 graphics card, WD Blue 500GB SSD, running MX-Linux 21.2.1 (Linux 5.10.0-18-amd64, xfce 4.16.0). Installed NoMachine applications using “sudo dpkg -i …”.

My experience: from the (no longer red [7], now grey [8] ) NoMachine shortcut icon in my taskbar, single left clik to “Show main window”; clicking thru the 2 info screens brings me to the “Machines” display, showing devices both inside my home network as well as a couple across the web. Choose any device, either right click “Start connection” or by double-left-click opens the next window asking for the user/ pw (enter that), click thru the menu & audio & video choice screens (total of 5), brings me to the resolution choice screen. In 7 I see the blurred image of that desktop waiting for my last click. In 8 I may or may not see that blurred image before that window closes, no error report, no flash, just closes. The “Machines” display box is still open. I can choose the same device or a different device & get the same experience, only the amount of seconds until the last window closes is different.

Starting at any other device I can follow the same steps & successfully connect to & control my ACER box using the above versions of 8 (client/ server) as well as 7, but I can only successfully connect TO other devices FROM my ACER using 7.8.2 (& before), but not 8.

I have looked thru the logs in both Linux & Windows, & cannot locate a culprit. I would be happy to add any other info, but not sure what would be relevant. All help is Greatly Appreciated! ! !

Hi, it looks similar to another topic https://forums.nomachine.com/topic/issues-connecting-to-manjaro-kde-plasma. In that case, disabling hardware decoding on the client side helped.

We would be interested in seeing the backtrace of the ACER box to make sure. Can you check for segfaults on the Player side? This article explains how to look for core files, https://kb.nomachine.com/AR09L00810.

After that, in the Player computer, please edit option key=”Enable hardware accelerated decoding” value=”disabled” in player.cfg. Before changing the configuration key, you should first quit the NoMachine Player (you can do this by right clicking on the !M icon in the system tray and selecting ‘Quit NoMachine Player’. Then try to connect from your ACER client again.
