Host: Ubuntu 18.04, Gnome, NoMachine 7.6.2 (free)
Client: Windows 10 NoMachine 7.6.2 (free)
Problem:
When I connect from a Win 10 system to a NoMachine server on Ubuntu 18.04, I’m seeing what looks like a console, not the desktop GUI (screenshot attached)
How I got here:
The server is a new install of Ubuntu 18.04. I was able to successfully install NoMachine, and had a session to the physical desktop GUI up. However, when I tried to switch workspaces on the desktop GUI, it froze the switcher panel on the screen. I could interact with an already open terminal session, but I couldn’t access any of the desktop top bar actions.
I tried restarting both GDM and NoMachine and reconnecting. But now NoMachine shows what looks like a console screen, not the physical desktop GUI. I went as far as rebooting the Ubuntu system, but it is still stuck showing that console. If I restart GDM and NM, the console shows new text – but it’s still text, I don’t see the GUI.
See the attached file for a visual of what I mean.
Thanks in advance!
