After the last update, or two, I’ve been getting a continuous Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Failed) error.

Usually no big deal, but when Windows starts making notification noises every couple of seconds it’ll drive you mad!

I have not been able to find any details on this error. A general google search turns up SO many generic results with about 80% of them saying the same thing, having you do the same steps with no resolution.

I’ve already clean installed the OS, run sfc, run the dism repair but none of those show any errors.

Hi, can you tell us what Windows OS version it is? Did you try clicking “update driver” in the Windows dialog (left of image)? Are you using a USB hub maybe?

In the meantime you could trying disabling the NoMachine drivers and see if that helps.

    Windows 11 Home 23H2 22631.4249

Yes, no effect. Just tells me the best driver is already installed.

    No Hub.

And the instructions in the article also didn’t help?

Nope. Issued the commands, did a reboot, issue still present.

Only thing that solves it, is to uninstall NoMachine. I can’t really do that because one of my servers is dependent on having NoMachine to connect to it.

I REALLY have no desire to fool with VNC, X Windows, RDP to connect to that Linux box. NoMachine just works.

As I said, the local machine has no issues with the error, UNTIL Windows notifications starts going nuts when the errored device connects/disconnects repetitively making that blasted noise for 20 minutes. The only other issue it to disable the failed device, then I don’t get that noisy notification.

Hmm, can you try installing from the command line with nomachine-packageName_packageVersion.exe /usbinstall="0" ? This should disable USB from the onset and set in node.cfg: EnableUSBSharing none.
