I was controlling a MacBook Pro from a MacBook Air using the free NoMachine for OS X. I was getting confused as to which Mission Control/Spotlight I was interacting with. Once I started the screen sharing session with the Mac Mini, I became completely lost. I was hoping someone had a good method of keeping things straight between all the nested Mission Control/Spotlights. I can give you a screenshot if you think that would help. All are running El Capitan.

    Hi.
You may try to enable the “Grab the keyboard input” option by checking the corresponding box in the Input menu: when this option is enabled all your keystrokes will go to the remote desktop when the NoMachine window has the focus, so you’ll be sure that Mission Control or Spotlight are running on the remote OS X.
