    Hey!
    So I just bought myself a little PC to use as a headless server.
    The server is running ubuntu desktop, my pc used to connect to the server is running Windows 10.
    I installed NoMachine (free) and everything was working perfectly with a monitor attached.

    As soon as I removed the monitor from the server and rebooted, NoMachine lagged like crazy. The remote connection wasnt good at all. It has maybe 1 or 2 fps.

    Is this a common problem? Is there anything I can do?

    Please try the tip suggested by graywolf  from https://forums.nomachine.com/topic/ubuntu-16-04-headless-resolution-stuck-1024×768.

    If you want use the machine as headless all the time, you can turn off lightdm service on system start: sudo systemctl disable lightdm
