How can I change the connection preference

I downloaded and am using the free version on OS X.  I would like to switch off the automatic server start in connection preference section.  I was prompted to enter administrator and password.  I tried many times and it keeps redirect me to the same authentication screen.  Which username and password should I use?  Is there anyway to change the default setting?  Thanks.

Hello Ken.

If the root user is enabled on your OS X host, then you can enter root credentials, otherwise you can use the credentials of another administrator account.
