I need to connect to a remote Windows 10 Pro system on a low bandwidth DSL line. Max bandwidth on server is 1mbit upload, but I’ve seen it lower.

    Server Details

    • Basic 2D desktop work. Occasional use of Google Earth Pro.
    • Remote machine (server) is an i7-7700, 16GB ram, Nvidia Quadro M620 graphics card
    • DSL internet connection 6mbit down / 1mbit up

    Client Details

    • Client machine is i7-7700, 16GB ram, nVidia Quadro M620 graphics card
    • Gigabit internet connection

    Questions

    1. Would the H.264 AVC pack help? (most work will be 2D)
    2. What can be done to optimize for low bandwidth?

    Hi!

    1. The AVC pack will help for sure.

    2. NoMachine will adapt automatically to network conditions to achieve best performance possible. Just use the Display quality slider (that you can see in the session menu – Display settings tab) to find the best trade-off between quality and speed that works for you. You can leave other settings to the defaults. Consider that of course also screen resolution will affect used bandwidth.
