I am trying to remote to a Ubuntu 20.04 computer from my Windows 11 machine.
The Ubuntu machine is on the university intranet, Ip 10.104.145.203
I used a VPN to login into the university intranet. After VPN connects, my IP is 10.110.177.253
When I try to connect, the window pops up for like 0.1 second and immediately disappear. I think it connected successfully because when I check the server status, the last connect time is the time when I try to connect.
Here are ways I have tried to solve the problem:
Uninstall and reinstall NoMachine on my Windows machine.
Restart NoMachine
Restart computer
Connect to the server from another university computer that is on the intranet and does not need to connect with VPN (Connects very well)
Any ideas of why this is happening?
August 16, 2024 at 08:26 #49222BritgirlKeymasterHi, can you try disabling hardware decoding on your Windows client computer? Follow the instructions here to do that (in your case you must disable completely, in point 3, by setting the option key as:
<option key="Enable hardware accelerated decoding" value="disabled" />
How to disable hardware decoding on the client side

August 20, 2024 at 12:29 #49267BritgirlKeymasterCan you send us the logs from:
– your NoMachine Windows client
– the Ubuntu serverFor logs, please enable debug as per the instructions here on the Ubuntu side and gather logs. The link also contains instructions for extracting logs from the Player.

Also useful would be the nxtrace from the Windows computer. If it’s the player which is crashing for some reason, there will be a nxtrace log in C:/ProgramData/NoMachine/var/log.
Send everything to forum[at]nomachine[dot]com. Please reference this topic in your email. Thanks!
September 3, 2024 at 17:40 #49530BritgirlKeymasterWe received server side logs and the client side nxtrace log but no NoMachine player logs from the Windows machine. Please submit those as well. See point Fourth Step: Collect Client Side Logs (if requested) of the document in my previous reply. Thanks.
September 12, 2024 at 10:44 #49636BritgirlKeymasterThe attachment you sent us from the Windows machine does not contain the player logs from the Windows machine.
Are you enabling the box in the Player (don’t delete logs upon exit) ?
To debug a problem which causes a session freeze or a disconnect, be sure that the Don’t delete log files on exit checkbox is selected in UI -> Settings -> Player -> Security panel before launching the client to reproduce the problem. Start the session, do not close the Player window once problem has been reproduced.
On Windows the .nx folder is hidden. To find it, write the following in the address bar or the file browser:
%USERPROFILE%\.nxOr navigate through the computer folder till the user’s home and digit .nx in the navigation toolbar to reach it. Path can be similar to: C:/Users/nomachine/.nx.
Thanks.
