When trying to run an OpenGL-ES ,SDL 2.0.5 application on my Odroid-XU 4 with

    Distributor ID:    Ubuntu
    Description:    Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS
    Release:    16.04
    Codename:    xenial

    I always get :

Couldn’t initialize SDL: No available displays

Locally it works. What does this depend on? Can this be checked in any way ?

I am happy provided any needed information once I know what.

Are you using headless system or you tried to run the application inside physical session? Which exact application are you trying to run?

The system is connected just like any “usual” machine with all typical stuff, keyboard, mouse, TFT via hdmi, running the MATE desktop.

The application is something I am developing for, using SDL2.0.5. The same is working flawless on my main PC via NoMachine, with OpenSuSE leap 42.2 and X64 Linux.

You said that your application works locally – do you mean that it works on the odroid when you’re physically ON the odroid and you see the app on the TFT monitor? If you use NoMachine, are you connected to the same desktop which you see on the TFT?

Generally, when installing NoMachine (free) it looks for an X server and if it cannot find one NoMachine Player shows “Cannot detect any display. Do you want NoMachine to create a new display and proceed to connect to the desktop?”. After accepting it will create a new display.

    Do you see this message?

It is possible that you need to set or export DISPLAY value to start your app.
