    Hi,
can I borrow your experience for a moment please?

    3 systems:
1x Linux server Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS
    1x Windows 11 client
    1x Mac OS 10.15 client

    Issue:
Using the same credentials “from Windows to Linux” connects fine.
“From Mac to Linux” the same user/PW combination is rejected.
Strange is that “guest access” is accepted (after confirmation).

Who can point me in the right direction?

    Best, Walter

It looks like a wrong password caused by keyboard layout mismatch. What is the message you are seeing?

    The message is straight forward:
Authorisation failed, please try again (translated).

    What I tried:
    – login as guest
    – open a texteditor on the remote Linux machine
    – check how the characters show there, coming from the mac client
All keys pressed show as corresponding characters.
Does this prove that a “keyboard layout mismatch” is not the reason for the issue?

    Stuck…

how about the username? You mentioned the error message is translated. Is it possible you are using non-latin characters in the username? We can check the logs to see what is causing the authentication error, they will show whether it’s a wrong username issue or something else.

You should enable logs on the Linux server following the instructions here, https://kb.nomachine.com/DT07S00243, and then on the Mac client, the instructions are in the 4th step of that document. The client logs should be retrieved when the player showing the authentication error is open, so after reproducing the problem, do not close the player. Send everything to forum[at]nomachine[dot]com. Please use the title of this topic as the subject of your email. Thanks!

    Hi Britgirl,

Thanks for pointing in the right direction!
The following combination caused the issue:
    1. The Windows client is not case-sensitive, the Mac client however is. Using the same username in Win/Mac will not give the same behavior. (User caused the issue)
    2. Non-latin characters used in the username.

I’m glad you made me rethink the username/password choices I made.

    Thanks for lending your experience!
