I am trying to evaluate NoMachine Enterprise Desktop. I have the evaluation version installed on two Linux machines. The documentation indicates that when I create a connection and authenticate, I should be presented with a screen where I can select a virtual session. However, that does not happen: once I authenticate it goes straight to a physical desktop.

Is there some sort of configuration I need to do for NoMachine on the remote server?

One bit of information that may be relevant: I did have the free NoMachine version installed previously. Is it possible some configuration files were left over that prevent me from making virtual desktop connections? I removed the free version on both machines using “apt remove –purge”, and I removed the /usr/NX directories before installing the Enterprise Desktop on both machines.

    NoMachine Enterprise Desktop 6.2.4-4 amd64

    Remote: Linux Mint 19

    Local: Linux Ubuntu 18.04

Hi rth, to run virtual desktops you need a product from the range of Terminal Server products. Quoting the tutorial:

Install Workstation or other Terminal Server product on the remote host you want to connect to (the server).

Enterprise Desktop is for access to the physical display. It’s not a product from the TS range so it won’t be possible to run virtual Linux desktops

I would start off with Workstation for Linux 🙂 But check out the Terminal Server family of products here: https://www.nomachine.com/comparison-terminal-server-products.
