rj_dslParticipantHello,
I am working on installing the Enterprise Client on about 50+ machines, and would like to automate the maintenance of the player from a central point. I can’t seem to find how to update the client from a non-sudo user.
Ideally, I would like users to update via the GUI prompt (It’s the same “standard” user they all log in with and have personal LDAP logins for their NoMachine access), without me having to make that user a sudo user.
So far I have tried with visudo, polkit none of them seem to do the trick.
As far as I can see, when the user tries to run the update, they are prompted for an admin user, before password. And adding nxexec to visudo for that user doesn’t seem to negate this.
Is there any way I can accomplish this? Or is this a feature coming in future versions?

BritgirlKeymasterIt’s impossible to update NoMachine software without administrator privileges because it requires access to certain privileged sections of the User profile.
What you can do, instead, is a create local repository (apt for deb, yum for rpm) and put there new version of player each time we release it. And user’s machines will update from it, automatically. You should contact the sales team to check what the legal implications with regards to redistribution of the package.
We are working on a portable version which might satisfy your use case, certain services won’t be possible and these are outlined in the Feature Request:
Creating NoMachine free portable version

rj_dslParticipantHello Britgirl.
Thx for the reply, I hope you will address this in the future as it make managing NoMachine in a non-privileged environment very hard.. A followup question, is it possible to update the software via CLI? Im then looking to update the Client via SSH.
We are using the Enterprice Client version.

CarinParticipantHi rj_dsl,
A followup question, is it possible to update the software via CLI? Im then looking to update the Client via SSH.
At the moment this is not possible, but this feature is planned. You can consult the feature request here: Adding the possibility to manage updates from NoMachine repositories via command line. Please make sure you subscribe to increase its importance and be notified when implemented.
