Forum / NoMachine for Linux / Nxclient only gives the usage message
Tagged: client connection error message
I have used nx in the past and I have just downloaded NX 6.8.1 for Ubuntu, and installed it from the tar images into the expected /usr/NX.
The OS is Ubuntu 18.04.3 .
The server appears to be running OK (although I cannot test it), but the client is not. When I run /usr/NX/bin/nxclient it doesn’t put up a connection window, I just get the standard usage error message on the shell,
“NXCLIENT – Version 6.8.1
Usage: nxclient [OPTIONS]
–dialog TYPE [–caption TITLE] [–message MESSAGE] [–local]
[–window ID] [–class {info|warning|error}]
[–allowmultiple]
…
This is for backward compatibility with older versions. Note that the single-dash format is deprecated and will be likely removed in future versions.”
I apologize if I am being stupid, but how do I get a connection window?.
Hi. If you want to start the NoMachine client you should execute /usr/NX/bin/nxplayer
from a terminal, or just use the NoMachine entry in applications menu. The nxclient application is not meant to be started manually, it needs the communication with other NoMachine processes in order to work correctly. The binary name didn’t change for historical reasons. 🙂
