Hi everybody,
just installed NoMachine on my Ubuntu server 64, and connected my Ubuntu 15.04 through NoMachine without any problem.
Well, the only fact, is that they can see what I’m doing on the server screen !
I did not expect that, though I believed I was going to initiate a new and private session.
So is there any parameter I could change to be allowed to distant work while another person is actually working on the server itself in the same time?
thx
September 29, 2015 at 20:30 #8419BritgirlKeymasterWhat you probably need is the Workstation for Linux. It’s in the Terminal Server range: https://www.nomachine.com/product&p=NoMachine%20Workstation
This will allow you to run your own personal Linux desktop and won’t be visible to others (on the monitor). NoMachine (free) is for connecting to the physical display. With version 5 which is being finalized as I write this it will be possible to blank the screen so passers-by don’t see what’s happening if there is a monitor attached. This might be an option to you if the Workstation isn’t.

but it’s not only a question of being seen, technicaly, it also means that the connected client is actually using the session that is opened on the server, not leaving others able to open other sessions at the same time, distant or not.
So am I supposed to understand that NoMachine is not a Remote Session (like Microsoft TSE on their RDP protocol) entirely, but more like Team Viewer or VNC, a distant control ?
I did not understand when I first came on your website, and I must admit, i’m still confused.
September 30, 2015 at 10:36 #8430BritgirlKeymasterThe free NoMachine package is for access to the physical desktop as I already mentioned. So yes, it’s like VNC for the sake of a simple comparison. The products that are oriented to professionals and organizations provide the functionality (virtual Linux desktop sessions) that you are requesting. To clarify better what you can and can’t do with the free NoMachine product, please take a look at the following FAQ (-https://www.nomachine.com/faq):
What is the difference between physical desktop and virtual desktop?

https://www.nomachine.com/AR10K00702If you’re looking for Linux terminal server functionality, or in the past you were using NX Free Edition, you need to use the Workstation. The download URL is linked directly from the URL I provided in my earlier post.
